History of the Organization

Manga African Dance Company was founded in 1990 by Ramatu Afegbua-Sabbatt. It is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization. Our community-based company works with schools, universities and community centers to provide a broad appreciation of the artistic and cultural richness of west African dance.

Mangas mission is to preserve indigenous African culture through dance, education and performance. The company is composed of adults and children who are students as well as performers, learning about African dance, music and culture. The companys high-energy repertoire exhibits cultural traditions from western, central and southern Africa. The company danced in the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1996 Olympic Games. Manga performed for the opening of Ghana expo 2004 and most recently at the luncheon of the Georgia Center for Non-Profits 2005 Summit, featuring speaker Teresa Heinz Kerry. In April 2003, Manga was featured in the 2003 World Music Festival (sponsored by the Georgia State University, School of Music).
